Day 1: We left Prescott at about 5:00am and drove straight through to San Francisco. It took about 14 hours. We got there at 7:00pm and drove around downtown for a few minutes (looking for our hotel). We stayed at the Coventry Inn which is about a mile from Fisherman's Warf. We checked into the hotel and they have free parking in the garage under the hotel which is very unusual in San Francisco. As Alan was driving into the garage, the bell on my bike hit the door and popped off. If my bike had been an inch higher it would have damaged my handlebars! Our room was very nice and the bed was very comfortable. We brought the bikes and all of our camping gear up to the room because the man at the desk told us not to leave ANYTHING in the car. We took a walk down Lombard Street after we got situated in the room and got a fish dinner at a restaurant about 3 blocks from the hotel.
Day 2: The next morning we ate breakfast at Mel's Drive-In. It is the famous diner on the movie American Grafitti. After breakfast we walked down to Fisherman's Warf to look for the place where we had reservations for a Segway tour of the bay. We were early for the tour so we walked up some of the VERY steep hills near the Warf. It's amazing that people can actually live on those streets. We got back to the Segway place and met our tour guide and learned how to ride the Segways. Our guide was Carla Plante who was a character and we had a great time riding our Segways but wished they could go faster! We rode near Fisherman's Warf and to some of the other sights around that part of San Francisco and ate lunch at a vegetarian restaurant. The tour was 2.5 hours long. After that we walked around Fisherman's Warf and ate dinner at Bubba Gump's Restaurant, watched the sea lions and had ice cream. With tired feet, we walked back to the hotel.
