Day 4: We packed the car up and then ate breakfast at Mel's again. We drove over 'The Crooked Street' on Lombard then off to the Golden Gate Bridge. We drove to Muir Woods and walked on the main trail. We also walked up the 'Ocean View Trail' but couldn't see the ocean from there. After we got back to the car, we drove to Muir Beach and walked on the beach for a bit, but it was very cold and windy. From there we drove north on Hwy 1 to Reyes Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse itself was closed but the area was very interesting. We had to hike up a .5 mile trail to the top of the hill then under some trees that rained. The trees rained, not the clouds! We stopped that evening in Petaluma. We ended up having to drive inland because there are NO gas stations on the coast in that area. We camped at a KOA in Petaluma, which was a mistake. The campground is not geared to tent campers and it was very expensive and poor accomodations.
